    Research Seminar on Bias, redemption and hope: Strategy in emerging markets by Dr Farzad Alvi

    Speaker’s Profile:

    Dr Alvi is a Visiting Research Professor at Schulich School of Business – York University. Prior to Schulich, he was a Professor at EGADE Business School (Tec de Monterrey) in Mexico City for over six years. His research and teaching interests are in the areas of strategy, international business / entrepreneurship, and the institutional contexts of emerging markets. Dr Alvi’s academic interests are an extension of his previous career in finance.

    Prior to his Ph.D. studies, he worked in investment banking for 11 years, principally with Deutsche Bank and ABN AMRO Bank, focusing on the mergers and equity financing of state-owned banks in emerging markets. Based at various times in Hong Kong, Jakarta, and Amsterdam, he advised governments and banks in 17 countries in Asia, the Middle East and Eastern Europe. He is also a Company Director.

    Dr Farzad has been awarded degrees from the University of Cambridge (Ph.D., 2009), Indiana University (J.D., 1994), University of Toronto (M.B.A., 1992, ICD.D, 2015), and University of Chicago (A.B., 1988).
